What is a Self Cheque? How to Write One (with Example)
April 22, 20263 min read
A self cheque is a cheque you write to yourself to withdraw cash from your own bank account. In the payee line you write "Self" instead of another person's name.
How to write a self cheque
- In the "Pay" line, write "Self".
- Write the amount in words and figures.
- Date and sign the cheque as registered with your bank.
- Present it at your bank branch to collect cash.
Example
To withdraw ₹10,000 from your own account, write "Pay Self ₹10,000" and sign it. The bank gives you the cash.
Precautions
- A self cheque is like cash — if lost, anyone may encash it. Do not pre-sign blank self cheques.
- Never cross a self cheque if you want to withdraw cash at the counter.
